Eye-catching Gradient Avatars: Paint Shop Pro & Photoshop Mini Tutorial

Paint Shop Pro Examples

Photoshop Examples

Filling a transparent image with a Gradient can create eye-caching forum and message board avatars. To begin, open a New Transparent Document onto Paint Shop Pro’s or Adobe Photoshop’s workspace, ensuring it measures 100 Pixels X 100 Pixels: or select a document size that suits your needs.
Paint Shop Pro students, set the Colour/Materials Palette Foreground Swatch to a Gradient of your choice (Metallic Gradients work well). And experimenting with different Gradient Styles, Angles and Repeats, find a Gradient that you like the look of. (I selected a Paint Shop Pro Gradient called Metallic Silver and I set the Style to Sunburst). Then from the left-side Tools Toolbar, activate the Flood Fill Tool, then left-click over your Transparent Canvas to fill it with your Gradient choice.
Congratulations, your Gradient Avatar is ready to save and upload to a message board or forum, in your usual manner.

Photoshop Students
From the left-side Tools Toolbar, activate the Gradient Tool.

And from the Gradient Tools Options Palette, select a Gradient of your choice. (Metallic Gradients work well).

Then left-click and stretch a Gradient Line across your Transparent Canvas.

(For personal results, experiment with different Gradients
and stretch the Gradient Line in the direction of your choice).
Congratulations, your Gradient Avatar is ready to save and upload to a message board or forum, in your usual manner.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Quickly Resize An Active Paint Shop Pro Tool
02/12/2009 by admin.
To quickly resize an active Paint Shop Pro Tool:- for example the Brush or Eraser Tool. First activate your choice of Tool, (from the left-side Toolbar). Then press and keep pressed your Keyboard’s Alt Key. Then press down your Mouse’s Left Button, and keep it pressed. Now, drag your entire mouse upwards or downwards. Moving the mouse either upwards or downwards quickly resizes an active Tool.
Best Wishes.

Straighten Horizons Using The Ruler Tool: Photoshop Tutorial
02/12/2009 by admin.
To straighten crooked horizons using Photoshop’s Ruler Tool: (I am utilising CS4 Extended). First, open your image onto Photoshop’s workspace. Then from the left-side Toolbar, activate the Ruler Tool. (You will find this tool hiding beneath the Eyedropper Tool). Once the Ruler Tool has been activated, hover your cursor over the edge of your photograph’s horizon, then left-click and drag a straight line right across the image - to the opposite side. Once the horizon line has been applied: from the top menu, choose Image then choose Image Rotation then choose Arbitrary. Photoshop will now automatically enter the correct rotation Angle. Now, click OK - and providing you have applied a straight line with the Ruler Tool, your crooked horizon will straighten.
You may need to Crop away areas of blank space that this technique generates.
Best Wishes.
